WHO WE ARE

We are a civil society network that promotes refugee agency in humanitarian action and fosters grassroots solidarity with refugee-led organisations in the Global South. We believe refugees are not mere beneficiaries of assistance but frontline responders in humanitarian crises and that shifting the power is key to reshaping the humanitarian architecture.

WHAT WE DO

We connect refugee-led organisations in the Global South with local solidarity groups, volunteers and donors in the Global North to build transformative solidarities that help shift power in humanitarian action.

We support refugee-led organisations to strengthen their systems and capacities, build refugee leadership, support innovative partnerships, and produce a solid evidence base to scale up the approach in humanitarian action.

We mobilise solidarities and resources in support of refugee-led organisations and their initiatives.

We advocate for the recognition of refugees as key actors in humanitarian action, their inclusion in locally led responses and their access to adequate resources.

THE ORGANISATIONS WE WORK WITH

ARWNET seeks to create inclusive, empowered, and sustainable refugee women-led organisations that drive systemic change, advocate for gender equity, and improve the lives of refugee women globally. Through a training-of-trainer approach, ARWNET aims to support African organisations led by refugee and displaced women as well as migrant women in refugee-like situations build organisational systems and develop leadership and advocacy capacity. ARWNET also amplifies their voices in regional and global platforms.

ARWNET was registered in 2022 in South Africa and has members in 25 countries.

GNRD empowers refugees with disabilities and their organisations to overcome barriers, and access essential services and resources, as well as global and regional platforms. Through advocacy, capacity building, resource mobilisation and partnership building, GNRD advances disability inclusion and policy change in refugee responses.

GNRD was registered in 2025 in Sweden and has member organisations in Sweden, Ireland, Kenya, Uganda, Malawi, South Africa, Cameroon, Nigeria, Jordan, Honduras, and USA.

RECAN provides refugee-led organisations, refugee entrepreneurs and innovators with resources, capacity building, and connections, including to donors and investors, and funding opportunities. It aims to build strategic alliances with NGOs, host governments, and private sector partners to amplify refugee voices in policy discussions on refugee rights and the role of refugees in humanitarian and development responses.

RECAN operates since 2025 in Kenya and Uganda.

FFC is a change-oriented network of social activists committed to establishing a civil infrastructure for the intellectual, developmental, and political advancement of local communities, including refugees, displaced individuals, and the most vulnerable populations.

FFC’s mission involves upholding the dignity and rights of these communities in refugee-hosting countries while providing support to host communities. It delivers protection programmes, group psychosocial support and referral services, relief and emergency services including shelter and hot meal kitchens, education for out-of-school refugee children, and interventions to support women empowerment.

FFC is registered in Germany and operates in Lebanon and Syria since 2022.

SVO focuses on uplifting the most vulnerable refugees by providing education for children with disabilities, delivering community-based psycho-social support and gender-based violence prevention and response, fostering peacebuilding, supporting women empowerment through livelihood and food security programmes, and enhancing care for the elderly.

SVO is driven entirely by Sudanese refugees. It is registered in Sweden and has been operating in Sudan and the refugee camps in Eastern Chad since 2016.

The WGSS initiative was founded in Adré, Chad in December 2023 by a group of social researchers and social workers who fled Sudan's violence. Its aim was to provide psychosocial support to women and girls affected by the war in Darfur and refer them to health services.

WGSS focuses on empowering women through capacity building and economic empowerment, as well as preventing and responding to ongoing violence. The initiative also contributes to community strengthening, raising awareness, and producing handicrafts in Adré and Duqi camps.

WGSS operates in the refugee camps in Eastern Chad.

EFFR empowers refugees from different nationalities and religions through community-driven advocacy, protection, livelihoods, psychosocial support, education, and inclusion. Its work spans protection services, including legal awareness, gender-based violence prevention and response, child protection, youth engagement and disability support; health services; family counselling; and e-commerce marketplaces to help refugees sell their crafts and boost local economic independence, as well as advocacy for refugee-led organisations.

EFFR is the first refugee-led organisation registered in Ethiopia and has been operating in Addis Ababa and in the refugee camp in Gambella and Assosa since 2022.

SCI emerged from the lived experiences and urgent needs of refugee women, girls, children and youth facing systemic barriers in accessing education, health and economic opportunities. A women-led, community-based organisation, it fosters resilience, empowerment and integration into the local community through resilience programmes and pathways to self-sufficiency. It also provides education on sexual and reproductive health and pursues the prevention of gender-based violence.

SCI is registered and has been operating in Kakuma refugee camp in Kenya since 2022.

SOS Nomades works to strengthen protection and access to inclusive education for refugee and nomadic children, grounded in children's rights and community resilience. It runs learning and reading spaces, organises remedial classes, and offers psychosocial, sports, and recreational activities for children and youth. SOS Nomades volunteers also raise awareness on children's rights, hygiene, and protection within the community, and identify children requiring support.

SOS Nomades operates in M’bera refugee camps in Mauritania.

RWAED is an organisation based in the camps of Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh. It advances the empowerment, rights and leadership of Rohingya refugee and stateless women and the education of children, adolescents, and young women. It aims to prevent gender-based violence, child marriage and human trafficking and promote gender equality. It supports income-generating activities for women and provides financial management training. It also raises awareness of other camp-related issues, such as self-care and mental health, child labour and first aid emergency response in case of fire, flooding or land erosion.

RWAED has been operating since 2018.
