We believe in humanity and solidarity and stand for agency and inclusion

CALLS is animated by connections between volunteers, donors and others concerned in Europe, and refugee communities in the Global South that co-create transformative forms of solidarity.

Humanity: At CALLS Network, our value of Humanity is rooted in the recognition of our common humanity - what connects people across places, cultures, and religions, as well as the living world around us. We honor the shared dignity of all beings and believe that humanitarian action creates common goods that benefit everyone, including the environment. By acknowledging our shared responsibilities, especially toward those persecuted, marginalised, and the living systems that sustain us, we affirm our commitment to a more just and interconnected world.

Solidarity: At CALLS Network, we recognise the mutuality and agency of all those involved across diverse places as well as the uneven power relations. We create new ways of relating with refugees in the Global South as active agents in their communities. We believe in solidarity as a transformative relationship able to challenge the established structures of humanitarian action and as a powerful force for reshaping the humanitarian ecosystem.

Agency: We believe that refugees are not passive beneficiaries of assistance; they are vital actors in humanitarian crises. We stand for agency, not charity, and advocate for a shift of power to refugees and their organisations within the humanitarian ecosystem. This commitment extends to the agency of volunteers, advocates, and allies in the Global North, whose actions can amplify solidarity and support for refugees in the Global South. By recognising and empowering the agency of all involved, we foster a more equitable and collaborative humanitarian response.

Inclusion: For us, humanitarian responses should prioritise those at risk of being left behind, especially women and girls, youth, and persons with disabilities. We champion an inclusive localisation agenda, ensuring that marginalied voices, including those of refugee-led organisations, are central to the new humanitarian architecture. CALLS Network builds relations across diversity, valuing intersectional identities and bringing together people of all ages, genders, social backgrounds, ethnicities, religions, and places of origin. By embedding inclusion at every level, we strengthen collective action and ensure no one is excluded.
